Bonus points are the three extra points handed out after every Premier League match, awarded 3–2–1 to the players with the highest Bonus Points System (BPS) scores. BPS is a separate running tally from FPL points: it scores raw match actions such as goals, assists, tackles won, saves, clearances and passes completed, weighted by position.
Live BPS is provisional
While a match is in play the BPS ranking on this page is provisional. It moves with every action, and a late goal or a flurry of defensive work regularly reorders the top three. Bonus is only confirmed once the Premier League signs off the match data, usually shortly after full time.
Ties
When players tie on BPS the bonus is shared rather than split. Two players tied at the top both receive 3 points and the next player receives 1. Two players tied for second both receive 2, and no player receives 1.
FPL Bonus Points FAQ
The BPS measures player performance through a points system based on various actions. Players earn BPS for goals (+24 for strikers, +36 for defenders/midfielders), assists (+9), clean sheets (+12 for defenders/GK), saves (+2), and successful tackles/passes. Players lose points for fouls, yellow cards (-3), red cards (-9), and own goals (-6).
After each match, the three players with the highest BPS scores receive bonus points. The player with the highest BPS gets 3 bonus points, second highest gets 2, and third gets 1. If players are tied, they share the bonus points (e.g., if two players tie for highest, both get 3 bonus points).
Bonus points are provisional during matches and typically become final within an hour after full-time. The FPL system reviews the BPS data before confirming final bonus allocations. Our tracker shows both live provisional and confirmed final bonus points.
Bonus points can change due to stat corrections by Opta, the official data provider. Actions like assists, tackles, or saves may be reviewed and adjusted after the match, which can alter BPS scores and final bonus point allocations.
Midfielders and forwards who score goals tend to dominate bonus points due to their high BPS values for attacking actions. However, defenders and goalkeepers can earn significant BPS through clean sheets, saves, and defensive actions in low-scoring games.
